Why Golfers Choose Northland
Northland offers a very different style of golf holiday – quieter roads, spectacular coastal scenery, vineyard lunches and relaxed evenings after a day on the fairways.
From internationally renowned Kauri Cliffs to local favourites overlooking the Bay of Islands, the region combines exceptional golf with the slower rhythm of the Far North.
Begin the day with breakfast in your guesthouse before heading out to courses overlooking the Pacific Ocean, native bush and harbour landscapes. Afterwards, return to Treghan for local wine, nearby dining and the privacy of your own self-contained retreat.
Many guests also choose to stay a little longer, combining golf with wineries, galleries, coastal cruises and some of the Bay of Islands’ most spectacular scenery.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which golf courses are included in your golf packages?
Our golf holidays can include Kauri Cliffs, Waitangi Golf Club and Bay of Islands Golf Club (Kerikeri). We also offer personalised itineraries that can include Whangaroa Golf Club and other Northland courses, depending on your interests and length of stay.
Can you tailor a golf holiday to suit our interests?
Yes. Every group is different, so we’re happy to create a personalised itinerary around the courses you’d most like to play. Whether you’re planning a dedicated golf escape, combining golf with sightseeing, or travelling with non-golfing partners, we’ll help design a holiday that suits your interests, budget and length of stay.
How far is Kauri Cliffs from Treghan Lodge?
Kauri Cliffs Golf Course is approximately 35–40 minutes’ drive from Treghan Lodge. Waitangi Golf Club is around 25 minutes away, Bay of Islands Golf Club (Kerikeri) is just a few minutes from the lodge, and Whangaroa Golf Club is about 40 minutes away, making Treghan an ideal base for exploring Northland’s outstanding golf courses.
Can non-golfing partners be included?
Absolutely. Many of our guests travel with partners who don’t play golf. While you’re on the course, they can explore Kerikeri’s galleries, wineries, cafés and boutique shopping, visit Rainbow Falls, enjoy a Bay of Islands cruise, or simply relax in the peace and privacy of their own luxury guesthouse. We’re always happy to recommend activities tailored to individual interests.
How many nights do you recommend for a golf holiday?
We generally recommend at least three nights to enjoy Kauri Cliffs, Waitangi Golf Club and Bay of Islands Golf Club at a relaxed pace. Four or five nights gives you time to include Whangaroa Golf Club, explore the Bay of Islands, enjoy local food and wine, and experience more of what Northland has to offer.
Can I book accommodation without a golf package?
Yes. Many guests simply book one of our private guesthouses and arrange their own golf. Others ask us to recommend courses or help plan an itinerary. We’re happy to assist as much or as little as you need.
Can you arrange tee times at different golf courses?
Yes. If you’d like us to, we can help plan your itinerary and arrange tee times at Kauri Cliffs, Waitangi Golf Club, Bay of Islands Golf Club, Whangaroa Golf Club and other Northland courses, subject to availability.
Can we choose which golf courses to play?
Definitely. While many guests enjoy our Stay & Play and Golf and Gourmet packages, others prefer to create their own itinerary. Whether you’d like to play one course several times or experience a different course each day, we’re happy to tailor your stay.
Can you help us plan our golf itinerary?
Yes. We know the region well and can help you plan a relaxed itinerary based on your interests, preferred courses and length of stay. We can also suggest restaurants, wineries, sightseeing and activities to enjoy between rounds.
We're travelling with golfers and non-golfers. Can you suggest activities for everyone?
Certainly. One of the advantages of staying in Kerikeri is that there’s plenty to enjoy beyond the golf. While some guests are on the course, others may choose to visit galleries, wineries, cafés, Rainbow Falls, local gardens or explore the Bay of Islands. We’re always happy to suggest ideas based on your interests.
Can we extend our stay and explore Northland?
Many guests do. A golf holiday is the perfect opportunity to spend a little longer exploring the Bay of Islands and the Far North. We’re happy to suggest scenic drives, beaches, walks, wineries and other experiences to complement your time on the golf course.
