Kerikeri’s markets are one of the quiet pleasures of staying in the Bay of Islands.

They’re genuinely local & centred around fresh produce, small growers, and regional makers. Whether you’re gathering supplies for a picnic, browsing for gifts, or enjoying a slow morning wander, the markets are well worth building into your stay.

Old Packhouse Market – Saturdays and Sundays

The Old Packhouse Market is the region’s standout and a firm favourite with Treghan guests.

Saturday mornings focus on local produce.
This is the best day for seasonal fruit and vegetables, fresh bread, cheese, eggs, honey, flowers, and small-batch food producers. Ideal for stocking up for breakfasts, picnics, or a relaxed lunch back at your guesthouse.

Sundays are more relaxed and lifestyle-oriented.
There’s still food to enjoy, but the pace is slower, with more emphasis on browsing, coffee, crafts, plants, and handmade goods. It’s an easy, social way to start the day.

Guests often tell us it’s one of the best markets they’ve visited, many comparing it favourably with markets in Europe.

Bay of Islands Farmers Market – Sundays

Held in town on Sunday mornings, the Bay of Islands Farmers Market is smaller and more intimate. It’s perfect for picking up a few fresh items, enjoying a coffee, or chatting directly with growers and makers.

It works beautifully as part of a gentle Sunday itinerary, paired with a short walk, gallery visit, or vineyard lunch.

Seasonal Tips for Visiting the Markets

  • Arrive early for the best selection, especially on Saturdays

  • Bring a cooler bag in warmer months if buying cheese or seafood

  • Ask what’s local and in season – growers are always happy to share

  • Buy for the day rather than the week – freshness is the joy here

  • Combine your visit with a picnic – we’re happy to suggest spots or help organise one
