Experiences

The Bay of Islands and Far North are best experienced slowly.

Long lunches overlooking vineyards. Coastal walks that lead to empty beaches. Historic places that still feel connected to the landscape around them. Winding roads north through forest, farmland and coastline, where the journey itself becomes part of the experience.

From Kerikeri, the region opens in every direction – golf courses beside the ocean, galleries and artisan studios, quiet harbours, farmers markets, sailing, fishing, native forest walks and some of New Zealand’s most significant cultural and heritage sites. Further north, day trips unfold naturally toward Doubtless Bay, Hokianga, Cape Reinga and the wild beauty of the coast.

There is no single way to experience this part of New Zealand. Some days begin early and end with dinner and wine beside the fire. Others are spent slowly, with nowhere particular to be and no need to rush back.

Set among peaceful gardens just outside Kerikeri, Treghan Lodge offers a quieter and more private way to experience the region. A place to return to after long days exploring – or simply a place to stop, slow down, and enjoy doing very little at all.
